Norse goddess Frigga
Frigga, or Frigg, is in Norse mythology the goddess of love and fate. She is married to Odin and is the mother of Balder, and is said to be very wise and possess great knowledge. She, like Odin, knows the fate of the Æsir (the gods), humans, and the world, but she keeps this knowledge to herself.
The most well-known story associated with Frigga is the tale of her and her son Balder. After many nightmares foretelling his death, the caring Frigga sets out into the world to prevent his fate. She speaks with everything in existence — both living and non-living — and makes all promise not to harm her son. Everything, except for the mistletoe, makes this promise, as Frigga considers the mistletoe too small and innocent to cause harm. Loki deceives Hod (brother of Loki and Balder) into shooting Balder with an arrow made of mistletoe, and Balder falls dead. Overwhelmed with grief, Frigga pleads with the Æsir to bring Balder back from the realm of the dead, but Loki prevents them from succeeding.
